Walking Licence

A Chinese school is running special courses to teach pupils how to walk. Children who pass written and practical tests receive a walking licence. Yanghe Garden Elementary School, in Chongqing city, has also issued a Walking Declaration which is displayed in classrooms and corridors.
It says: "Learn to walk in a good way and do your best to be a polite person; the school should be quiet even during class breaks, and so walking should also be very quiet."
In the written exam, students are asked questions such as: "When going up the stairs, you see a student in front of you walking with difficulty. At this time, I would - A. Follow the student quietly or go ahead to ask if he or she needs help, or B. Squeeze ahead of him or her, or complain that the student is blocking the way."
The school says 240 students out of the total student body of 1,300 have already received a walking licence. Gong Yujie, a school official, says the course and issuing of a walking license help to cultivate group responsibility without hindering the development of students' individual personalities.
